Kyrene Family Resource Center Clothing Drive

The Funds Transfer Alliance has teamed up with the Kyrene Family Resource Center for our annual clothing drive. One week in and we have already taken four loads of clothes, blankets, dishes, kitchen items, etc over, but we know we can do better than that! Do a little spring cleaning this weekend and bring in your extra gently used  clothes, shoes, linens, dishes, household items, toys, etc and help out this great cause!

Here is a little history of the Family Resource Center
In 1978 a secretary at the district office [Kyrene School District], observed the increase in the number of children from low income families. She learned of a family whose five children shared only one pair of shoes among them. As a result, each child was able to only attend school one day per week! She began gathering donations of gently used clothes and shoes to provide to this and other families in need in the Kyrene Elementary School District. She cleaned and repaired the clothes, as needed, and began distributing them and other items out of the trunk of her car. In 1986, another Kyrene secretary began assisting in this endeavor.

A few years later, and at the urging of a Kyrene Governing Board member, the two employees petitioned the Kyrene Schools Community Foundation (KSCF) to formally establish a program of assistance to poor families. In 1992, KSCF officially established the Kyrene Kids Corner.
